Guy Ausmus manages the supply chain and commodity risk book for ArcelorMittal USA's Base Metals and Energy supply portfolios. Presently, this is an annual spend approaching $2 billion.
Mr. Ausmus and his team provide Natural Gas, Electricity, Zinc, Nickel, Tin, and Aluminum to 19 manufacturing operations in 10 states. Given the international nature of ArcelorMittal, they touch energy decisions and risk management issues in Canada, Mexico, Europe, and South America.
He has spent the last 19 years working for ArcelorMittal or predecessor companies. Prior to that, he spent the first 10 years of his career in Petroleum E&P.
Mr. Ausmus is an engineering graduate of Montana State University, and has a Masters degree in Management from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Porter Bennett, President, Bentek Energy
Porter Bennett founded BENTEK in 1985. Over the past 21 years he has led the evolution of the company from an energy industry consulting firm specializing in market and customer analysis to today's leading energy market information company. In his early career, Mr. Bennett held positions with consulting companies specializing in energy market analysis. He holds a MS Degree in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, and a MA Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University. He received a BA Degree in History from Lewis & Clark College.
Ellen Beswick, Publisher & Founder, Intelligence Press, Inc., moderator
Ellen Beswick started the publishing company Intelligence Press, Inc., in 1981 with the first issue of the weekly Natural Gas Intelligence (NGI) to provide market information for the newly deregulated natural gas market. She and her staff have directed NGI's expansion to include the Weekly Gas Price Index (1983), the Daily Gas Price Index (1988) and NGI's Power Market Today (2001). The company also has hosted the annual GasMart conference and trade show since 1987. Before starting Intelligence Press, ms. Beswick served as associate editor of London Oil Reports. Previously, she had been a general and political/business reporter for United Press International, the Boston Herald daily newspaper, and the daily and weekly American Metal Markets. She has a B.A. in English from Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA.
David Ciarlone, Manager Energy Services, Alcoa Inc.
David Ciarlone is directly responsible for over $625 million Alcoa spends annually on natural gas and electricity in North America. He also consults with his colleagues who manage the balance of Alcoa's $3 billion global energy spend.
Mr. Ciarlone has 26 years of experience generating, selling, buying and managing energy. Through the course of his career he has worked for an electric utility, an energy marketer, an energy management consulting firm and an industrial end-user. He has accumulated experience on energy regulatory dockets at the federal level and in several states, most recently including testimony before the Ohio Senate in support of the new electricity bill.
Mr. Ciarlone graduated the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Option and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering, D.O.E. Radioactive Waste Management Fellowship from the Pennsylvania State University.
Robert Cooper, Director Energy, United States Gypsum Company
As energy director of USG in the company's Chicago headquarters, Robert B. Cooper oversees both natural gas and electricity procurement, which includes the purchase of 37 Bcf of natural gas across North America utilizing firm transport agreements on 25 pipelines. He is very active in federal and state energy regulatory matters in the United States and also has testified before the Canadian National Energy Board in TransCanada PipeLine proceedings. He also manages hedging activities for the firm.
In 1992 Mr. Cooper took over the post of Energy Manager at USG with the responsibility for natural gas supply acquisition and transportation, as well as local distribution arrangements for plants across the country. Previously, he was a marketing manager for Entrade, a large natural gas marketing company, and worked for Linnco Futures, were he was responsible for hedging natural gas, crude oil and products for energy marketing companies, end users and producers. He started out as a grain merchandiser for Continental Grain.
Mr. Cooper has spoken at many energy and risk management conferences and is a member of the executive committees of energy groups in Florida, Maryland, Virginia, and Indiana.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Finance from Iowa State University and received a MBA from Depaul University.
John Eagleton, Vice President Business Development, Kinder Morgan Energy Partners
Mr. Eagleton has over 25 years experience in the regulated natural gas pipeline and unregulated midstream sectors. He has worked in various capacities for Colorado Interstate Gas Company, Coastal Field Service Company, El Paso Corporation, and MarkWest Hydrocarbon, Inc. Mr. Eagleton joined KinderMorgan Energy Partners, L.P. in September 2005.
He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Kathleen Eisbrenner, Executive Vice President, Global LNG, Shell Gas & Power International
Kathleen Eisbrenner is Executive Vice President Global LNG at Shell Gas and Power International. Her responsibilities include leading Shell's Global LNG and LNG trading businesses.
She was born in Hammond, Indiana in 1960 and joined Shell in September 2007.
Before becoming Executive Vice President for Shell, Kathleen was President and CEO of Excelerate Energy, a company she founded in 2003. Prior to that, she was Chief Commercial Officer at El Paso Global LNG.
Dean Ferguson, Vice President, Marketing, Business Development & Regulatory Affairs for U.S. Pipeline Central, TransCanada
Dean Ferguson is Vice-President Marketing, Business Development and Regulatory Affairs for U.S. Pipelines Central (USPC). USPC consists of the ANR and Great Lakes pipeline systems. Based in Houston, Texas, Mr. Ferguson leads the USPC's business development, sales and marketing, capacity pricing, strategy, revenue analysis, rates and regulatory and asset optimization.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ferguson was Vice-President Market Development, Canadian Pipelines with TransCanada. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and a MBA from the University of Calgary. Mr. Ferguson has been with TransCanada since 1991, holding a variety of leadership roles in areas such as gas supply, market development, gas development and revenue management.
Jennifer Fordham, Director of Energy Markets & Government Affairs, Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA)
Jenny Fordham is the Director of Energy Markets and Government Relations at the Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA). Ms. Fordham is responsible for issues related to the balancing of natural gas supply and demand. She also represents the association at senior level meetings with the administration, FERC, U.S. Congress, media, industry and the public.
With nearly twenty years in the industry, Ms. Fordham has experience in regulatory advocacy, investor relations and fuel supply planning for power generators.
Previously, she held positions at Washington Gas Light Company, Pace Global Energy Services and Columbia Energy Group, distribution and transmission companies.
Ms. Fordham graduated cum laude from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV, with a bachelor's degree in economics and political science. She is a professional member of the Energy Bas Association and a member of the Women's Council on Energy and the Environment.
Brian Frank, President, BP Energy Company North America Gas & Power
Mr. Frank is also the Regional Head in the America, for BP's Integrated Supply and Trading presence. He is a member of the Board of Directors of BP America, Inc. and also services on the BP America Operations Advisory Board.
Prior to his current appointment in June 2006, Mr. Frank held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of BP Canada Energy Company based in Calgary. He has 25 years of energy industry experience, the past 13 years with BP Canada and its predecessor company Amoco Canada.
Before joining Amoco Canada in 1995, Mr. Frank served in several senior positions with the federal Department of Natural Resources Canada. Mr. Frank began his career in the energy sector with NOVA Corporation (now part of TransCanada Pipeline Company) where he worked in the economic studies and planning departments.
Mr. Frank holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Masters Degree in Administration from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
Bill Griffith, Regional Director, BP Gas & Power, moderator
Mr. Griffith joined BP / Amoco in 1994, opening the first Midwest Regional office for BP, with an emphasis on developing a local presence to market natural gas supply and balancing services to utility and industrial clients. He has 20 years of commercial experience in the Natural Gas Industry, with various roles in marketing, asset acquisition, and trading and asset optimization. Mr. Griffith has been instrumental in developing the strategy that has seen BP grow it's Midwest presence from one person in 1994 to over 80 people in four offices today in 2008.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Illinois State University and a MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago.
Audrea Hill, Senior Director Raw Materials & Hedging, Potash Corp.
Audrea Hill is the Sr. Director of Raw Materials & Hedging for PotashCorp and oversees gas, sulfur and emissions activities. She has been with the company for 12 years. Prior to PotashCorp, Ms. Hill served at Fina Natural Gas Company in Dallas, Texas, and the National Coal Association in Washington, D. C.
Ms. Hill holds a BS in Geology and a MA in Energy & Mineral Resources, both from the University of Texas at Austin.
Bud Hum, Director Natural Gas Products Marketing, IntercontinentalExchange
Bud Hum joined The IntercontinentalExchange, Inc. (ICE) in 2001 shortly after its inception. He is responsible for all North American Physical Natural Gas Markets traded on the platform. In addition to his marketing and sales responsibilities, Mr. Hum is charged with customer development, training, functional enhancements and business development. Armed with over 15 years of energy industry experience, he is well positioned to respond to the constant changes in the industry and keep ICE at the forefront of electronic trade execution.
Prior to ICE, Mr. Hum was President of Budco Hub Services and Marketing Director for QuickTrade LLC. He has also held positions in trading, operations and finance with Natural Gas Clearinghouse, Amoco and Direct Energy.
Mr. Hum holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta.
Will Hussey, Senior Vice President, Origination, ConocoPhillips.
Mr. Hussey is Senior Vice President, Origination for ConocoPhillips Gas & Power, working out of the company's world headquarters in Houston. His organization is charged with continuing to expand the company's gas and power marketing business by developing a base of long-term contracts and customer relationships.
Formerly president of Phillips Gas Marketing Company and manager of North America Natural Gas Marketing, Mr. Hussey has a broad base of experience. During his 30 years with ConocoPhillips, he has had management positions in areas ranging from accounting and computing to planning and development and marketing. He has been in his current position for the last four years.
Mr. Hussey is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Craig Jimenez, President, OGE Energy Resources
Craig Jimenez was promoted in October 2007 to President of OGE Energy Resources, Inc., having previously held the positions of VP Energy Marketing and Trading and Director of Quantitative Analysis. OGE Energy Resources is a regionally focused, asset-based natural gas marketer in Oklahoma City.
Prior to OGE, Craig was a Senior Strategist for physical assets at FEA, a lead market-maker for weather-triggered gas and power options at Mirant, and a development team-member for Saudi Aramco's massively parallel reservoir simulator POWERS.
Craig holds a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford, a Masters in Naval Architecture from UC Berkeley, and a Masters in Computation and Applied Math from UT Austin.
Berne Mosley, Director of Division of Pipeline Certificates, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
Mr. Mosley's division has the responsibility for case management and Commission order preparation for the following major workload items:
- Gas certificate applications for construction and operation of facilities;
- Applications for import and export authorization, including the siting of LNG import and cryogenic storage facilities; and
- Applications for abandonment of facilities.
Prior to serving as the Director of Pipeline Certificates, Mr. Mosley was the Assistant Director of the Office of Energy Projects and was responsible for, among other things, the following general work effort areas:
- Strategic and financial management;
- Human and materials resource management; and
- Information management and technology.
Mr. Mosley has been with the Commission since 1983; during this time he has been responsible for managing gas pipeline certificate applications for major pipeline and storage construction projects, the siting and authorization of import and export facilities, including cryogenic facilities necessary for the storage of LNG, and for advising the Commission on engineering issues associated with gas quality and interchangeability.
Mr. Mosley graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
Al Musur, Director Global Energy, Abbott
Al Musur is responsible for providing strategic direction and technical support to Abbott's global operations in their energy acquisition, management and conservation programs. He also provides support and acts as the corporate pivot point for all of Abbott's cogeneration and self-generation activities, provides support in all rate negotiations and interventions with public utilities, and advises Abbott's facilities on matters concerning energy deregulation. Further, Mr. Musur is responsible for developing strategies and programs for the management of Abbott's CO2 emissions. He has been with Abbott since 1979.
Mr. Musur is the President of the international Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers-World (IFIEC-World), Chairman of the Industrial Energy Consumers of America (IECA) and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Illinois Industrial Energy Consumers (IIEC).
He has a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Juris Doctor Degree from the John Marshall Law School.
Jim Osten, Principal North American Energy Services, Global Insight (USA) Inc.
Mr. Osten has been a North American energy economist since 1973. He developed the Global Insight spot gas price forecasting and analysis system used in studies of pricing natural gas transportation, testimony on behalf of pipeline expansions and detailed analysis of fuel costs for major electric utilities. He is responsible for Global Insight's forecasts and publications covering natural gas and LNG forecasting. These reports include the Monthly Natural Gas for North America natural gas markets and the long-term US Energy Outlook.
Mr. Osten produces detailed pricing and marketing analysis for LNG terminals using monthly data for pricing points, supply and demand to evaluate marketing strategies. He has developed many of Global Insight's models for North American pricing regional natural gas demand and the Canadian Energy Model. He has prepared multi-client studies and numerous reports such as "Bridging the Methane Gap" and "Demand Destruction: The Impact of Rising Natural Gas Prices."
Mr. Osten has had numerous international consulting assignments including Europe, Latin America, Indonesia and South Africa and has testified numerous times before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission and the Canadian National Energy Board. He received his economics degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Boston College.
Joe Raia, Senior Vice President, New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), moderator
Joe Raia has over 26 years of professional experience in the Energy, Financial Services and Transportation Sectors. A 1979 graduate of the New York Maritime Academy at Ft. Schuyler, Mr. Raia sailed in the U.S. Merchant Marines, and worked in various positions in the oil transportation and trading sectors until June 2000.
From that point, Mr. Raia was employed in the Financial Service Sector as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Senior On Air Energy Analyst / Anchor for the JAGfn, a live Financial News Show. Since 2001, he has been employed as a Marketing Director and most recently, as Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing at the New York Mercantile Exchange; using his extensive background and experience in the energy and trading sectors to develop and head the launch of the Exchanges' ClearPort program. The ClearPort Clearing program was awarded the 2004 Energy Innovation Product of the Year by EnergyRisk Magazine.
Janelle Scheuer, Director, Wachovia
Janelle Scheuer joined Wachovia in April 2006, and heads the Commodity Derivatives Sales Group. Her responsibilities include customer coverage for hedging activities for both regular hedging business and structures products.
Prior to joining Wachovia, Ms. Scheuer was a Managing Director at Cinergy where she started the gas mid-marketing business, and managed both power and gas marketing, including both physical and financial transactions. Prior to Cinergy, she was Director at Enron, where she marketed gas and crude derivatives to exploration and production companies, and afterward, physical and financial power in the PJM and New York areas.
Ms. Scheuer's derivative experience was also gained in 12 years of banking at JP Morgan, Chemical Bank and Royal Bank of Canada, where she developed and marketed interest rate and foreign exchange hedges to suit her customer's needs.
She holds a B.S. in Accounting from the State university of New York at Albany.
David Slater, Managing Director, Marketing & Structured Products, Nexen Marketing
David J. Slater is the Managing Director, Marketing with Nexen Marketing USA Inc. He leads the team responsible for Nexen's marketing and structured product activities in the Midwest, Eastern Canada and Northeast markets, which includes marketing Nexen's Canadian and Gulf Coast production.
Prior to joining Nexen, David managed the Midwest region for El Paso, Engage Energy and Westcoast Gas Services. David started in the industry working for Union Gas Limited, holding various positions in the Regulatory, Gas Supply and Storage & Transmission departments.
David holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and an Honours degree in Business Commerce from the University of Windsor.
Dexter Steis, Executive Publisher, Intelligence Press, Inc., moderator
Dexter Steis joined the staff of NGI's Gas Price Index in 1995 as a reporter covering the natural gas cash and futures market. In 2000, Mr. Steis assumed the role of Executive Publisher of Intelligence Press, Inc., a position where he managed the launch of NGI's breaking news service at intelligencepress.com. His responsibilities include oversight of the price survey function, daily publication of the newsletters and sales and marketing for the company. More recently, Mr. Steis has worked to restore the confidence in gas price indices through conferences with the FERC and as a member of the Market Price Reporting Action Committee (MPRAC), a 40-member coalition of the natural gas industry, its customers, brokers, publishers and exchanges.
He received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of New Hampshire.
James Stewart, Director, Integrys Energy Services
Mr. Stewart oversees the daily operations of our Energy Consulting group, managing all facets of value delivery to the client base. Integrys' consulting portfolio includes 30 clients with over 1,500 facilities under management.
Mr. Stewart's work experience includes his role as Program Manager, Commodity Hedging/Utility Commodity Leader at General Electric. His activities there included:
- Managing sourcing of all utilities for GE's 177+ North America sites
- Overseeing a total energy spend of $350 Million
- Managing hedging for natural gas and several other key commodities valued at $600 Million
- Creating and implementing a comprehensive FASB 133 compliance program
- Creating and implementing hedging programs for all strategic commodities including diesel fuel, unleaded gasoline and propane
Prior to that, he held Risk Management positions with a major energy-consulting firm for seven years.
Mr. Stewart has extensive expertise in all aspects of Risk Management and FAS 133 compliance and has crafted several customized Risk Strategies for major clients. He has a B. A. in Economics from Bellarmine College in Louisville, KY and a MBA from the University of Louisville. He also has a Series 3 license to sell futures and commodities investments.
Alexander E. Strawn, Jr, Purchasing Group Manager, North American Energy, Procter & Gamble, and Chairman of the PGC
Alex Strawn has more than twenty years of consumer products manufacturing experience, having held corporate purchasing positions with Avon Products, Tambrands and currently Procter & Gamble. He joined the P&G Energy Purchases organization in 2001, in Cincinnati, and has lived and worked, abroad, for the company in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mr. Strawn currently holds the position of Purchasing Group Manager, and is responsible for the physical contracting and supply of natural gas to more than forty Procter & Gamble sites in North America. The role encompasses not only the strategic sourcing of gas, but the management of pipeline transport and related legislative / regulatory lobbying activities, as well. He has led breakthrough efforts to leverage P&G requirements with regulated utilities throughout the Untied States. Mr. Strawn has testified before numerous FERC technical conferences and has been a frequent guest speaker at many national industry gatherings.
Mr. Strawn is currently Chairman of the Process Gas Consumers (PGC) Group. PGC is a national trade association of industrial gas consumers who require natural gas in many of their key operations. PGC works to promote coordinated, rational and consistent federal and state policies relating to natural gas and its transportation.
Mr. Strawn also serves with other gas industry executives as a member of the Natural Gas Council. IN addition, he was on the Board of Directors of the Gas Technology Institute. He is a native to Tyler, Texas, and attended the University of Virginia and James Madison University in Virginia.
Aaron Studwell, Meterologist & Senior Manager, Research & Analytics, Weather Insight
As the Senior Manager of Research and Analytics, Mr. Studwell's current work includes commodity price history analysis, along with the design and development of new energy weather forecast services.
Mr. Studwell has over 10 years of experience in energy weather forecasting and natural gas fundamental analysis. He was one of the first meteorologists to work in the energy-trading sector and brings that unique blend of knowledge and experience to Weather Insight and its clients.
Prior to joining Weather Insight, Mr. Studwell was the Chief Meteorologist at Avant Capital Management. He has also worked in senior research and forecasting roles at Reliant Resources and CMS Energy.
Mr. Studwell graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Masters of Science in Meteorology from the Texas A&M University.
Val Trinkley, General Manager, EnergyUSA
Val Trinkley manages EnergyUSA's commercial and industrial energy sales and service activity. He has more than 25 years of experience in sales, customer service, and engineering in the natural gas and electric industry.
Mr. Trinkley's primary focus has been business management and development; energy sales; customer balancing; risk management; and application engineering to the industrial and large commercial segments.
He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science from the University of Notre Dame. He is a Certified Energy Manager.
Dena Wiggins, Partner, Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, and General Counsel to the PGC, moderator
Ms. Wiggins experience in the energy field spans more than 20 years and involves legislative battles leading to the passage of the Energy Policy Acts of 1992 and 2005, the defeat of the Btu tax, the decontrol of wellhead prices of natural gas and the repeal of the Fuel Use Act. She has also been active in numerous legislative efforts to increase energy exploration and production in areas currently off limits to such activities.
Ms. Wiggins heads up the legislative affairs practice and currently represents the interests of various energy clients regarding a broad array of energy issues, including energy tax policy issues, incentives for natural gas production and LNG matters. She also provides advice related to foreign acquisitions reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. In addition, she has represented the interests of foreign timber and uranium clients in legislative matters before the U.S. Congress.
Ms. Wiggins' practice also focuses on federal regulator matters involving natural gas transportation and storage, crude oil, petroleum products and hydropower, where her clients include industrial consumers and natural gas producers. She serves as the General Counsel for the trade association comprised of large industrial consumers of natural gas.
Ms. Wiggins has been involved in numerous natural gas and oil pipeline rate proceedings and in rulemakings affecting the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's regulation of oil and natural gas. She has also participated in the proceedings surrounding the restructuring of the natural gas industry through Order Nos. 436, 636 and 637; and played a significant role in the first fully litigated oil pipeline case after the enactment of the Energy Policy Act of 1992.
She also provides transactional advice related to natural gas contracts and regulatory compliance and natural gas storage matters, including precedent agreements as well as rate and tariff advice. She has also represented a major foreign utility in arbitration proceedings involving international contract disputes and in proceedings before the FERC.
Ms. Wiggins served on the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board under Secretary Spencer Abraham. She is a member of the American Bar Association and of the leadership group for the Section of Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law.
She is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, 2005-2008, in Energy and Natural Resources Law.
